Abstract

The popularity of generative artificial intelligence technology among Internet users has opened a new dimension in creative poetry writing. This study aims to identify the structural features found in the poem “Matahari Jatuh di Hujung Belukar” by S.M. Zakir and analyse the differences between the original poem and the poem produced by generative artificial intelligence that mimics S.M. Zakir’s style, using the structural approach of Claude Lévi-Strauss. The instruments involved analysing the linguistic features, metaphors, and philosophy in the poems using structural theory to evaluate how well this technology can replicate the original author’s writing style. The findings indicate that generative artificial intelligence can imitate the aspects of complex metaphors, philosophy, and contemporary narrative structure in S.M. Zakir’s poetry. However, the element of humanity and original creativity have not yet been fully replaced by it. This study implies that generative artificial intelligence technology can only function as an instrument or tool to assist writers in their creative writing process, while maintaining the aesthetic values and cultural identity in Malay poetry, given the limitations of this technology.
