Publication Ethics

Kanun: Jurnal Undang-undang Malaysia is committed to maintaining the highest ethical standards for all parties involved in the act of publishing. Kanun: Jurnal Undang-undang Malaysia adheres to The Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) standards on publication ethics.

Any ethical violation is taken seriously and will comply with the guidelines provided by COPE. For further information please visit Core Practices.

Responsibilities of the Editor-in-Chief/Editor
To make independent evaluations of all articles submitted by contributors.
To ensure that every information regarding the articles is kept confidential if there is no specific purpose to disclose it.
To ensure the appointment if suitable evaluators, based on background and academic specialization.
To ensure that the evaluation process is carried out suing a double blind review.
To obtain the views of the Editorial Board actively.
To make decisions concerning articles to be published as well as the time of publication based on the terms and policy of the journal.
To check possibility of manuscript’s plagiarisme using plagiarisme checker tool (iThenticate).


Responsibilities of the Authors
To ensure the article is recent, original,  accurate, avoiding any falsification or fabrication and has not been published or is in consideration for publication in any other journals. 
To ensure there is no element of plagiarism in the submitted article.
To ensure that all sources of excerpts and quotations are clearly and stated in their entirety.
To acknowledge all sources of any secondary data used in their entirety.
To ensure adherence to the format set by the publisher.
Author is discouraged to submit manuscript that is written from different aspects from the same paper that has been submitted or published in any other journals.
Author must adhere to the authorship guidelines provided. Author must clarify conflict of interest and funding in regards to the manuscript submitted.
Author must inform the editor regarding any error/mistakes made in the published article.
Author must ensure that subject’s right (human) in the article is protected.
Author must ensure that subject’s right (human) in the article is protected.
Author is considered as violating the ethics if:

  • Submitting the same manuscript to other journals.
  • Plagiarising more than the allowed percentage.
  • Provide unauthorised authorship in the article.
  • Declaring false statement of conflict of interest.
  • Violating the research ethics
  • Manipulating every material regarding the article.

Responsibilities of the Reviewers
To review articles in an objective, fair and professional manner and without any conflict of interest. 
To inform the editor-in-chief/editor of any transgression of publication ethics detected in a submitted article.
To endure that articles reviewed are not plagiarised, and have not appeared elsewhere previously.
To ensure reviews are completed within the allocated time and to inform the editor-in-chief/editor if an extension is required to review any article.
Not to discuss an article under evaluation with any other party without permission.

Responsibilities of the Editorial Board
To carry out the duty with integrity and fair play.
To contribute actively and committed towards the development of the journal.
To act as an ambassador for the journal.
To provide continous support and promoting the journal.
To evaluate articles submiited for evaluation.

Conflict of Interest
Each author must declare the conflict of interest that may exist upon submission of manuscript to Kanun: Jurnal Undang-undang Malaysia. The conflict of interest might include the relationships between authors and editors, reviewers, copyeditors, editorial board, international editorial advisory board, or any other parties associated to the publication of articles in this journal. This is to prevent any potential influence or bias that may lead to publication misconduct. Conflict of interest may take in personal conflicts, commercial, academic or financial. Hence, all Jurnal Bahasa members are expected to adhere to the publication ethics outlined.

Post Publication
Once the article is published, authors may submit:

(1) Official notice to the journal if there are any errors or mistakes made by the journal (Erratum)

(2) Official notice to the journal if there are any errors or mistakes made by the author (Corrigendum)

(3) Official notice to the journal to retract the article from publication due to the conclusion of the article is affected and there is a crucial need in retraction of the article. Meanwhile, should there be any readers that demands an article to be retracted, they must provide information regarding the rationality of the decision to the journal. Jurnal Bahasa will discuss it with reviewer whether the conclusion is merely affected by the information. In this case, author may have the ooportunity to provide explanation.If the reviewer and author(s) agree that the article’s conclusion is affected, article must be retracted by the author(s).

(4) Official notice to the journal if there is additional information regarding the article (Addendum).

Dealing of Misconduct Cases
In case of any complaints received regarding misconduct cases, the editorial team will be:
1) Request the individual to provide proof for every misconduct.
2) Investigate about the complaint.
3) Take action for every misconduct cases as follows:
           a. To update article based on new information received; or
           b. Give warning to author; or
           c. Retract the article published in OJS and all platforms; or
           d. Suspend publication for six months.

Journal Plagiarism Policy

Authors should submit original work that is not plagiarised from others or from their own article, or has not been published or is in consideration in other journals. Works from other articles must be cited and stated with its complete information.

Article submitted to the Jurnal Bahasa will be screened for plagiarism using IThenticate plagiarism detection software.  Jurnal Bahasa will immediately reject article leading to plagiarism or self-plagiarism above 25%. The editor may confer with editorial board when making this decision.

Language Policy
All articles are published in Malay. English translations are given for titles, abstracts and keywords.

Open Access
This is an open access journal available to all users.

Privacy Statement
The names and email addresses entered in this journal site will be used exclusively for the stated purposes of this journal and will not be made available for any other purpose or to any other party.
