Bohong Sunat dalam Lakuan Respons Pujian

(Social Lies in Compliments Response)

Abstrak

Dalam fenomena berbahasa masyarakat terdapat situasi bohong sosial atau "bohong sunat" yang merupakan salah satu daripada penanda kerendahan diri dalam berkomunikasi. Fenomena ini menjadi kelaziman dalam interaksi masyarakat timur khususnya di Malaysia dengan menyelitkan unsur-unsur bohong sosial agar komunikasi dapat berlangsung dengan baik dan dapat menjaga perasaan pendengar. Kajian ini memanfaatkan 720 respons daripada 60 orang responden yang terdiri daripada pelajar Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) pelbagai kaum yang telah memberikan maklum balas terhadap 12 pujian yang direka bentuk berdasarkan tiga klasifikasi oleh Manes dan Wolfson. Data diperoleh telah dianalisis menggunakan taksonomi respons terhadap pujian oleh Herbert. Kajian ini mendapati bahawa terdapat perbezaan respons pujian antara kaum yang dikaji. Dapatan kajian menunjukkan bahawa pemahaman bohong sosial dalam masyarakat memberikan variasi yang berbeza-beza berlandaskan latar belakang berbahasa kaum masing-masing. Oleh hal yang demikian, pemerian dapatan ini secara tidak langsung dapat menyerlahkan keunikan respons komunikatif individu bagi melancarkan dan menjayakan komunikasi dalam sesebuah masyarakat.
