Isu percanggahan antara korpus dengan rumus di dalam kamus: peranan dan sumbangan ilmu linguistik teoretis
Abstract
A dictionary can be regarded as a database where the whole vocabu-laries including roots and derived words ofa language are stored. The process of composing a dictionary, particularly, a general dictionary, is descriptive in nature where the listing of words are based on contemporary corpus representing the real usage of language in the community. In the linguistics perspective, a language has its own procedure and system in deriving various forms of derived words, and the procedures are formulated in terms of rules. Principally, the dictionary, rules and corpus should be well matched and do not contradict each other, since they are sourced from the same language. However, sometimes the data in the corpus do disagree with the established rules, and this can be a problem and a challenge to dictionary compiling work. By employing the current development of linguistic theory, this inconsistency can be accounted for. Old rules should be reviewed and reexamined to value their adequacies. If they are found to be inad-equate, the rules should be restructured and reformulated so that the discrepancy can be regulated. Hence this paper attempts to discuss an issue on disagreement among three entities, namely the rules, the corpus and the dictionaries. For the purposes of this paper, we will be examining Kamus Dewan that was published in 1970, 1984, and 1994. Finally, the paper offers a new analysis, which demonstrates that the current rule is compatible with the contemporary data in the corpus.
