Penasalan vokal dalam bahasa Melayu standard dan dialek Pattani Gerik: satu huraian perbandingan
Abstract
In standard Malay, vowel nasalisation only occurs in progressive form (a vowel undergoes nasalisation when it is preceded by a nasal consonant). However, in the Gerik Pattani dialect a process of vowel nasalisation can be seen in two forms: Progressive vowel nasalisation and regressive vowel nasalisation. In regressive vowel nasalisation, vowels in final position (closed syllable) undergo nasalisation when followed by nasal consonants. There are two outcomes after the process of vowel nasalisation: Nasal consonants in final position will undergo deletion when the vowel on their left is vowel /El, and nasal consonants in the final position will undergo velarisation when the vowels on their left are /i, o, u/.
